About Kim Korven, BA, LLB, LLM, Mediator
Like you, I’ve been divorced.
As I was thinking about ending my marriage, I realized I was terrified of traditional divorce. I didn’t want to do that to my children. I’d seen what happened, with my clients.
That was the first time I questioned the role of the legal system in divorce.
To protect my kids, I created a better way. A way that didn’t involve lawyers or the court. I stick-handled it.
My husband didn’t believe in divorce and I could hardly stand to look at him. I figured out to tell him, how to divide assets, parenting … mostly, with some back and forth, he went for it.
It worked. We divorced without a battle and only involved lawyers at the end. It was unconventional. Fair results. Children who know they are loved by each of their parents. Children who were never caught in the middle.
It represented a new paradigm for divorce. Everyone else puts law on a pedestal. I don’t. This is about your family, not a set of rules.
Now I help other families divorce this way.
Sometimes as a meditor. Other times as a coach to women and to men.
My best work? This is within the divorce community I’ve created. This is where women remember their power, and the love they once felt for their spouses. This is where they support each other, and thrive with their children.
It’s magical. Their success inspires me to continue building this safe space where women move from despair to freedom.
I live in Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada’s Treaty 4 Territory with my husband (#2), two children from my first marriage, rescue greyhounds and cats. I am the third generation in my family to steward 160 acres of natural prairie.
